Privacy

Jinxed has no ads, and you can play everything without an account. Signing in with Google is optional; it keeps your name and cat on every device. This page says what the game keeps.
What we keep
- Game records. For each game we save the pack, the number of rounds, each prompt, every answer typed (including ones the game rejected), every chat message and the scores. We use these to fix answer lists and see how the game is used. Players appear only as seat numbers, so nicknames are not saved in these records. Each seat also carries a scrambled (hashed) copy of your browser's random ID, described below, so we can count how many different players there are each day. The ID itself is never saved, and it cannot be worked out from the hashed copy.
- The Daily Brew. When you play the Daily Brew we keep, for that day, the answers you brewed that the game accepted, the time into each round, your score and when you played, with the scrambled copy of your browser's ID (and your account, if you are signed in). This is how the game says how many of the day's players brewed each answer, keeps you to one run a day and counts your streak. Other players only ever see totals, never who brewed what. We keep these runs with no set end date; deleting your account deletes the runs made while signed in. They are not backed up.
- Achievements. When a game you play with someone else (a person or a bot) earns you an achievement, we keep which one and when, the cat pieces it unlocked, and how many such games you have played. If you are signed in they belong to your account; if not, to the scrambled copy of your browser's ID, and they move to your account when you sign in on that browser. A browser's are deleted after a year without such a game; your account's go when you delete it.
- Feedback. If you rate a game or send us a note, we keep the stars, any reasons you tick and your message, with the time and, for a rating, which game it was and your seat number. We do not save your nickname or IP address with it. We use feedback to improve the game and keep it as long as it is useful for that.
- Reports. If someone reports a player, we keep the reported player's nickname and their last few chat messages in that room, with the time, the room and both seat numbers, so we can block words that should not get through. This is the one place a nickname is saved.
- Your account, if you sign in. When you sign in with Google we keep Google's ID for your account, your email address, the name you play under and your cat. Nothing else from Google: not your contacts, files or Google profile name. Your email is never shown to other players. We keep these until you delete your account (open your name at the top of the home screen, then Delete account), which removes them at once; backups, kept for up to 30 days, may hold a copy until they expire. We also keep a record that you are signed in on each browser, which ends when you sign out there or after 180 days without a visit. Sign-in is for players 13 and over.
- Rooms. A room, its players and its scores live in the server's memory only. They are gone when the room closes or the server restarts.
- In your browser. The game stores a small session token (so a refreshed page gets your seat back), the last nickname you used, the cat you picked, whether you turned the sound or chat off, and a random ID made the first time you visit, in your browser's local storage. The ID is not linked to you, your device or anything you type; it is sent when you join a room so that we can count players. If you sign in, the game also sets one cookie that keeps you signed in; it is used for nothing else. Clear your browser's site data to remove all of it; you then get a new ID.
- Where you came from. Links we post elsewhere carry a short tag naming where they were posted, such as
?r=krillion. If you open one, we save the tag with the time and the same hashed copy of your browser's random ID, so we can see which posts brought players to a game. Nothing else is saved with it. - Visit counts. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts page views and visits by country, browser and referrer without cookies and without following you across sites.
What we do not do
- We do not ask for your name, email, age or location to play. Only signing in gives us an email, from Google.
- We do not store your IP address. Our game server does not write it to its logs or save it with your answers or feedback. Your connection reaches us through Cloudflare, which needs your address to deliver the game and shows us only totals. To stop the feedback form being flooded, the server remembers how many notes an address has sent for one hour, in memory only, then forgets it.
- We do not save nicknames in our records, except the nickname in a report.
- We do not use advertising or tracking across other websites. The only cookie is the sign-in one above.
- Apart from Cloudflare's visit counter above, the game loads nothing from other companies: no ad networks, no social widgets, no outside fonts. The one exception is Google's sign-in button, which loads from Google only when you go to sign in.
- We do not sell, rent or share your data, or use it to profile you.
Children
Jinxed is not directed at children under 13. Children can play as guests, which collects no personal information. Signing in is for players 13 and over.
What other players see
Your nickname, your cat and your chat messages are shown to the other players in your room, so do not put anything personal in them. Rude words are starred out, and you can report a player from their name. Answers are matched against our lists, and the game shows the matched answer, not what you typed. The one exception is a wrong answer that is on a prompt's list of known mistakes, which can be shown in an award at the end of a round.
