FAQ

Quick answers to what players ask most. The full rules are on How to play. If your question isn't here, write to support@jinxed.party.

Playing

Is Jinxed free?

Yes. Every mode is free, with no limit on games. The only things for sale are outfits for your cat, which change how it looks, never how you score. See Support us.

Do I need an account or a download?

No. Jinxed runs in any browser, on a phone or a computer. Pick a nickname and play. Signing in with Google is optional; it keeps your cat and its pieces on every device.

How many people can play?

Up to 20 in a room. A Quick Play room holds 10; when it fills, the next player gets a room of their own.

Can we play over a video call?

Yes. Everyone plays on their own phone or computer, so friends can be anywhere. Make a room and send the link in your call or group chat.

Can I play alone?

Play the Daily Brew: three prompts a day, the same for everyone, with a new set at midnight US Eastern. You see how many of the day's players brewed each of your answers. Or press Quick Play: if nobody else is there, three bots play with you.

Quick Play said people were online, so why did I get bots?

The number counts everyone playing Quick Play, across all its rooms. You join the busiest room that has a seat. If it holds only you, bots play with you until people arrive.

Is Jinxed family-friendly?

It can be. Classics, the default pack, has easy prompts everyone knows and always leaves out drinks, swearing and adult answers. In any other pack, the host can turn on Family-friendly in the lobby for the same. See the packs.

Answers and points

Why didn't my answer count?

Every prompt has its own list of accepted answers, built from sources such as Wikipedia lists. Small typos, plurals and common other names are accepted, but the game never guesses what you meant. So an answer may be refused because it isn't on the list yet, because it was spelled too far from the real name, or because it doesn't fit the prompt. A wrong answer costs nothing, and goes back in the box so you can fix it.

A right answer was refused. Can you add it?

Yes, please tell us. Rate the game at the end and tick "My answers didn't count", with the answer in the note. We read every one and read what players type, so lists grow every week. An answer missing today may count tomorrow.

The game changed what I typed. Why?

When what you typed is one slip of the fingers from an answer on the list, the game corrects it and shows the answer it matched. A real word is never corrected to a different one.

Do answers in other languages count?

Prompts and answers are in English. A name in another language counts when it is also how English speakers know the thing, or when it's on the list as another name.

How are points decided?

Rarer answers score more, from a Murky potion (1,000 points) to a Primordial one (8,000). How to play shows every tier. The answers nearly everyone thinks of are rated by hand. The rest are rated by how well known they are: by a list's own ranking where it has one, such as a chart position or a city's population, or by how often the answer's Wikipedia article is read. Real games correct them too: when players type an answer far more or less than its potion says, it moves.

The same answer as someone else in the round is a jinx: you split its points.

Someone is too fast. Are they cheating?

Probably not: some people type fast and know a lot. Nobody sees anyone's answers until the round ends. If a player is rude or spoils the game, tap their name to report them.

Your cat and the shop

How do I unlock pieces for my cat?

Achievements unlock them, in any game played with someone else, bots included. A few are secret: the piece says only that a secret achievement unlocks it. Sign in to keep them on every device.

What does the shop sell?

Outfits for your cat, bought once and kept on your account. They change nothing about how the game plays. Buying needs a signed-in account, and players under 18 need a parent's permission. See refunds.

Your data

What do you keep about me?

To play, nothing that names you: games are saved with seat numbers, not nicknames. Signing in keeps your email and your cat. The privacy page lists everything.
